I was a part of an American exchange program. Through this program, I was able to study at the University of Bologna for a year, and I took all my classes in Italian. Most of the classes had oral exams, so it really helped me to speak Italian better. The school is located all throughout the city center. The city is beautiful. I had a history class in a theatre, and one in a beautiful hall that had art on the ceilings and walls. I took a class on Dante and his literature which is amazing in itself. I also had a few other literature classes and an art class there. Taking classes at the University of Bologna was a wonderful experience!
Historically the oldest university in the world in continuous operation, being founded in 1088, almost a thousand years ago.
The university itself is quite large, with many faculties being located on adjacent streets and even further through the city.
It's not really open for visiting but there's a lot to see and experience even without going inside the many faculty buildings. There's also a large interior park.
The university has 14 different museums, with the majority being on the main street where the main university building is also located.
It is one of the most prestigious Italian universities, commonly ranking in the first places of national, European and international rankings both as a whole and for individual subjects.
It was the first place of study to use the term universitas for the corporations of students and masters, which came to define the institution (especially its famous law school) located in Bologna. The university's emblem carries the motto Alma mater studiorum ("Nourishing mother of studies") and the date A.D. 1088, and it has about 86,500 students in its 11 schools. It has campuses in Cesena, Forlì, Ravenna and Rimini and a branch center abroad in Buenos Aires, Argentina. It also has a school of excellence named Collegio Superiore di Bologna. An associate publisher of the University of Bologna is the Bononia University Press.
The University of Bologna saw the first woman to earn a university degree and teach at a university, Bettisia Gozzadini, and the first woman to earn both a doctorate in science and a salaried position as a university professor, Laura Bassi.
Fascinating museum , well worth a visit to the oldest university in the west and a snip at €5 entry fee. Make sure you look up.

The University of Bologna had a central role in the sciences during the Italian renaissance, where it housed and educated Nicholas Copernicus as well as numerous other renaissance mathematicians.[9]
It is really a amazing place ❤️
A place where the educational revolution started. Historical place. Once in a life should visit to see how educational era started.
Very interesting place, great combined old shadows and contemporary atmosphere.
One of the best universities in Italy and in Europe. The administration is efficient despite the complex Italian bureaucracy and accommodative to international students. Its research is definitely one of the best too.
I learned Italian in Bologna and now I am still Fluent; this University experience has given me the confidence to travel the World AND fit right in every country.
One of the oldest university of the European union and maybe the whole Europe.
